Loie Fuller

Joe Chvala (more on my meeting with him soon) suggested that I look at the work of Loie Fuller as I consider dance’s relationship with fabric. The colored light, the movement, the silk-it’s just beautiful. Did I mention that this was filmed in 1896?

Interesting elements: the way costume becomes something more-is it scenery?, the way movement shapes the negative space around her through the reaction of the fabric, the use of simple structures (dowels, broomsticks?) within the costume to give control over the fabric.
